GIS Center for Environment and Disaster Mitigation, Niigata University held an international GIS forum on global warming, disaster mitigation and landscaping on Nov. 26, 2007 at Hotel Nikko Niigata. We International Academic Support Office (IASO) supported part of its funding, total coordination and management.
This GIS forum was meant to contribute to the progress of disaster mitigation by GIS practices and as such GIS specialists were invited to present their research results from five countries.About hundred people--students, researchers, business persons, officers from local governments--participated in this forum, and based on the presentations made from local as well as global points of view by GIS specialists they discussed how GIS can help to build a secure and safe community, especially for its disaster mitigation.
On the following day (Nov. 27), Prof. Yong-Seok Seo (Chungbuk National University, Korea) gave a special talk on the Korean example of GIS implementations for students of the Department of Science at Ikarashi Campus, NiigataUniversity.
We only wish the Forum and the following special lecture opened up a new horizon of expectation in the minds of our participants through the discussion based on experiences, knowledge and friendship.
