GIS Center for Environment and Disaster Mitigation (Niigata University Core Station) will present its third international GIS workshop, which the center started since its establishment in 2007.

This time the workshop focuses on the issue of landslide disasters as it has attracted the attention of researchers because of the recent earthquakes: Chuetsu-oki earthquake in Japan, Wenchun dadizhen in China, Miyagi-Iwate earthquake, and the like. In collaboration with the First World Landslide Forum that will be held at UN University at Tokyo in Nov. 18-21, 2008, we will open up a site of discussion and information exchange at Niigata University, inviting two specialists of landslide disasters for our workshop from oversea research institutes.

The science of environment and disaster mitigation is the composite research field that by its nature requires interdisciplinary approaches. We would like you to participate in this workshop in regardless with your backgrounds in order to broadcast your own interests as well as to learn more.
